Avenues
During the first two stages of public engagement, we asked participants to confirm a design approach for the Avenues, the city centre streets around George Square. Popular priorities were: increased pedestrian and cycle space; increased greenspace and biodiversity; reduced street clutter; segregated cycle lanes and continuous footways.
A summary of Stage 2 engagement findings is available hereThis page presents the design proposals for each of the Avenues and asks participants to provide any responses. The next steps for these proposals is for the design team to undertake surveys and incorporate any currently unknown constraints into technical designs for construction. This is the final opportunity for public comment on the designs for these streets.

Design proposals for the avenues while unique to each street still share the same design principles:
1. Promote active traveling
• Prioritise pedestrians over vehicles
• Reduce carriageway and widening footpaths
• Dedicated cycle lanes
2. Promote sustainability
• Introduction of rain gardens (SUDS)
• Greening streets
• Improve street lighting efficiency
3. Street for all
• Creating resting place every 50m (accessibility guidelines)
• Street de-clutter
• Tactile paving
